Cisk: (pronounced "Chisk")
- This is the most popular of the Maltese beers and the one you'll find in all the pubs. It's a nice lager, and particularly nice on a hot Maltese summer day.
Farson's Lacto Milk Stout:
- I've only seen bottles of Lacto available in supermarkets. I think Maltese people generally use this stuff for cooking rather than drinking, but I thought it was quite decent. Kind of flat, coffee/caramel taste to it. It's also the Maltese beer the good folks at www.ratebeer.com reckon is the best of the bunch.
Farson's Blue Label:
- Good beer: it's a nice ale, not too strong.
Farson's Hopleaf Pale Ale:
- This is my favourite Maltese beer. Again it's not very strong, sweet tasting with a creamy head and it's the one I go for when I see it behind the bar.
1565 Victory Lager
- Decent lager, named in honour of the famous siege. Perfectly nice on a sunny day, but you don't see it on tap in quite as many spots as the ubiquitous Cisk.
You can pick up a 500ml can of Cisks for around the one euro mark in supermarkets, a little more expensive in smaller shops. The cheapest beers like Bavaria and Skol go for about 60 cents a can. In bars - as always - price varies depending on where you go. Expect to pay about €3 for a pint on average. As for which bar to buy it in, check out this page for some recommendations.

Always try to sample to local brew when abroad. I did like Cisk - they had it on tap in the hotel pool bar. Nothing better than to enjoy a pint, in the pool during the hot midday sun........
