As stereotypes go, England
is one pretty rainy country. Lacking a warm, Mediterranean climate, it is no
surprise that many Brits prefer to holiday in sunny places all year round. It
is also why destinations other than England are very popular for those wanting
to do an English course.
Malta is one such
destination! Situated on the Mediterranean coast, this beautiful island boasts
a sub-tropical climate, friendly locals and many historical and cultural sites.
Not only does it make for an ideal holiday destination but also it’s the
perfect place to brush up on your English as well. Because of Malta’s colonial
past, English remains the official language there so there is no excuse not to
speak it!
Keeping in theme with
history, Malta has an unbelievably rich and diverse history, which begs to be
discovered when you’re on its shores. Why not check out the Museum
of Archaeology in Valetta (the capital city of Malta) or the Grandmaster’s
palace –one of the first buildings to be built in the new city of
Valetta. The temple of Ħagar Qim which may have been built
as early as 3600BC is also worth a visit!
If you are on the island of
Gozo, then make sure to stop by the Ġgantija-Temple – a megalithic
temple complex dating farther back than the pyramids of Egypt! Commonly
associated with a race of giants, this temple represents the cultural and
technological development of our earlier ancestors and is definitely a sight
not to be missed.
Of course,
it should go without saying that Malta has many great beaches which should also
be a must see during your stay. For example Mellieha
Bay is one of the biggest sandy
beaches on the island and is perfect if you want to swim in the clear waters of
the sea. For those who prefer a more active break, then why not check out Selmun
Beach – a less well known beach but one that is brilliant if you want
to try out some water sports such as scuba diving!
Whilst taking in all that Malta
has to offer, why not brush up on your English there as well? Another
reason why Malta is the perfect destination for learning English is that the
government has very tight controls when monitoring the quality of the schools.
Competition is usually fierce as there are over 40 language schools on the
island so there is no doubt that the quality of all language schools will be
the best.
One school, which has just
received an EAQUALS
certification for Excellence in Language Education is the Sprachdirekt School.
You can find further information here. Not only does it offer consistently high
quality teaching, but also boasts a wonderful international atmosphere. Native
English teachers will guide you through the lessons in the school’s modern
environment with interactive white-boards, computers and many other language
resources to help you on your way. Also, the school has its own terrace
swimming pool and chill out lounge, meaning you can enjoy the sun whilst
learning English. If you prefer to be more active, then check out the school’s
various free time activities on offer such as sailing in the Blue Lagoon or a
safari tour in Gozo. It is important to note that here, there are no hidden
fees. Prices for the courses are all-inclusive, including course materials. Sprachdirekt
also takes charge of finding the right accommodation for you, be it with a host
family or in a residence and will guide you every step of the way.
So, whether
you want to improve your English, learn Business English or take some Private
Tuition lessons, why not come to Malta with Sprachdirekt!

Ah Mellieha Bay is really nice. Go to Gozo too, it's not too far from there and it's absolutely stunning!
Both very good options. No trip to Malta is complete unless you make the short hop over to Gozo.
