Bar Review: The Drayton Pub

Drayton Pub, MaltaThe Drayton Pub deserves to do more business than it does.  It is dimly lit, (as any good pub should be), it has a wide selection of alcoholic beverages, tv screens showing sporting events at an unobtrusive volume, and a couple of pool tables.  Okay, so the pool cues are basically sticks with a veneer of chalk on the end, but still.

Yet if you are in the Paceville area and searching for a place to have a beer where you will be absolutely guaranteed to get a seat, then the Drayton is that venue.  I think the location is the main reason for it’s lack of popularity, being as it’s along the street where people based in Swieqi march off towards Paceville, and then stumble back from Paceville many hours later.  It is not a “Destination” drinking spot, just somewhere you notice out of the corner of your eye when you’re going somewhere else.  And the fact that it doesn’t open it’s shutters until quite late in the day means it’s not going to get the sun-beaten afternoon crowd either.

Having said all that, and for the reasons expressed above, I like it.  And if you are not going to be stopping by, well, that just means there are all the more seats for me.
